Here's a few links to my ArtStation portfolio to see some of the art I made during the last 4+ years as part of the development team on The Lord of the Rings: Gollum at Daedalic Entertainment. Also a few YouTube links to the dev diary videos. Been missing from here quite a bit and now, while I slowly update all of my social pages, galleries and blogs, you can see what has been keeping me busy. your works awesome. Can you take a look at my pages, and let me know what u think I need to work on? thanx.
Hi. Lookin' at your pages I can see you've a pretty consolidated style, that's good. Also your composition is very dramatic and dynamic, that's good but always keep in mind when to exagerate with drama and when keep things simple. As every pro in the industry will say you always keep practicing with anatomy, not only human anatomy, also objects, animals, clothes; that's something you'll always try to improve if you're smart, even when you'll be in your 80's. I'd suggest you, 'cause I see you ink your own work, to work on your line, line modulation is essential to give the illusion of three-dimensional space onto a flat plane (the paper or the screen). Also try to differentiate more your characters facial features and expressions, go to a crowded place, like a train station or a bar, and draw the people you see trying to capture their mood in the simpler way you can; fast-paced life drawing is something that will pay you back when you'll need it. Aside these usual guidelines that are quite general your work looks good and will look better as you go, the important thing is that you keep practicing on anatomy, composition and line. Hope this helps. Best, Antonio.
damn. thanx. I ask for other artist to check out my work all the time. your like the first honest opinion I've got. I really appreciate it. its always good to see my work from anothers perspective. I like wat u said. but im confused about.. exaggerate drama. wen do I keep it simple wen can I go overboard?
Positioning the "camera" at head hight is "quite", flat and of simple readability, while positioning the camera from below and using a more dramatic body gesture makes the scene more dramatic, strong and communicative. Making the a page using head-hight panel only is boring, while making a page with dramatic from below panel only is boring too. You've to figure out how to use camera placement and panel lay-out to give the tension, reading speed and storytelling you wanna to the page and, thus far, to the story itself. You've to understand when slower is better and when faster is better, when quieter is better and when louder is better. Hope it makes sense. Best.
love your line art..
